Tense Humanity

Hi, I’m Haley.

Thanks for being here. Tense Humanity is my newsletter about books, tech, politics, pop culture, and the human condition. Not so unlike other publications, no? The name is inspired by Brian Christian’s book, The Most Human Human: What Talking with Computers Teaches Us About What It Means to Be Alive. In a section about AI, he makes a reference to a monkey and a robot holding hands, an image I haven’t been able to get out of my head since 2017.

I’m thinking about starting a sequence to delve into themes from a couple dozen works of science fiction that have moved and radicalized me. Stay tuned.
